Recovery of boxes

Sofrigam has set up a system for its clients in the USA and Canada for recovery of pallet shippers (large boxes) after use.

Objectives

• Recovery of the boxes with all the elements they comprise, without any sorting undertaken on the arrival site of the boxes used
  
• Sofrigam is responsible for their removal and transport
  
• Sofrigam deals with all sorting, reuse, recycling and redevelopment operations on the boxes.

Solution

After use, the pallet shippers are stored on arrival in order to be recovered by Sofrigam via full lorry.  The boxes are transferred to the Sofrigam site in Drummondville where all components are removed, sorted and verified.

Depending on the constituents there are 3 possible cases :

• Components to be reused: this option particularly concerns the cold accumulators, after verification of their condition.
• Polyurethane panels.  Depending on the size and condition of the panels, they are :
  
  • either cut up in order to manufacture small isothermal boxes for non-pharmaceutical applications with fewer requirements
    
  • or sold to individuals for building works (insulation of walls, lofts, renovations, etc.)
    
  • the waste is recycled energetically by incineration
    


• Components to be recycled: this is the cardboard component, such as the overwrapping.
